GMA Telenovelas Making Inroads in Latin America

GMA telenovelas are gaining in popularity in Latin America, due to the successful partnership between GMA Worldwide and distributor, Latin Media Corporation (LMC). Three of the Network’s top rating dramas are currently airing in the region, including the phenomenal hit Dulce Venganza (A Woman Scorned) via Oromar Televisión in Ecuador; Una Nueva Oportunidad (Another Chance) via Panamericana Televisión in Peru; and No Me Olvides (Someone To Watch Over Me) via Monte Carlo TV in Uruguay.

GMA telenovelas launched in Latin America in 2017 via the hit series Cautiva, which was first aired in Peru by Panamericana Televisión. The series was a surprise ratings success and this marked the beginning of the rise of telenovelas and series from the Philippines. Panamericana also aired No Me Olvides followed by Una Nueva Oportunidad, now on its second run.

Oromar Televisión in Ecuador also picked up Cautivaand Una Nueva Oportunidad.  Since then, the network has continuously aired Spanish-dubbed GMA telenovelas in its timeslot for Asian series, including No Me Olvides, La Impostora, Legalmente Ciega, and currently, the hit revenge series Dulce Venganza.

Uruguay is the latest country betting on a Filipino drama following growing interest across Latin America. No Me Olvidesbreaks new ground in the region as the first GMA telenovela to be aired in the country through Monte Carlo Televisión.

Latin American viewers continue to rave about Filipino telenovelas on social media.

With three of its best telenovelas airing across Latin America, it is encouraging that interest in GMA dramas is picking up. It proves the global appeal of GMA content as it tackles universal conflicts while exploring uncharted themes, combining all the elements needed for capturing viewers.
