GMA Unveils New Program Line-up for 2019

A teaser video featuring the new line up of programs for 2019 was unveiled during the New Year countdown last December 31. This includes new original series and groundbreaking competition/reality shows, and the much-anticipated Philippine adaptation of the hit Korean drama Descendants of the Sun. Using the hashtag #PusoAngMananaig (The Heart Will Prevail), the programs will feature captivating and inspiring stories, and innovative formats featuring the Philippines’ brightest stars.

GMA first announced in 2017 plans to do a remake of the 2016 hit drama Descendants of the Sun. This groundbreaking series from Korea has been adapted in Vietnam and soon, in China. Viewers are already abuzz in social media as to who among the GMA stars will play the titular roles of Big Boss and Dr. Kang.

Sahaya is about a young woman who belongs to the ethnic group in Southern Philippines called the Badjao. They are often called “sea gypsies” because they live most of their lives at sea. The series will feature the rich culture and colorful traditions of the Badjao. The series stars Bianca Umali and Miguel Tanfelix who last teamed up in the hit series Heart and Soul.

After the success of Happy Together, Barbie Forteza is set to return to primetime via the fantasy-drama Kara Mia. Based on a true story from India and an urban legend in Great Britain, this drama is about two sisters born with Diprosopus or craniofacial duplication, a congenital defect where they have two faces but only one body.

Also reuniting in 2019 are Kylie Padilla and Ruru Madrid in the satirical romantic-comedy series To The One I Love (TODA One I Love). They were first paired in the fantasy series Encantadia. The series will air in time for the national elections in May, and will give viewers a glimpse of Philippine local politics —all presented with a sprinkle of comedy and romance.

The Network also revealed its offerings in the Afternoon Prime time block, including the musical drama Inagaw na Bituin (literally, Stolen Star) featuring the Network’s fast-rising actresses, Kyline Alcantara and Therese Malvar.

Also in the Afternoon Prime is the drama Stolen starring Max Collins, Mark Herras and Jason Abalos.

Janine Gutierrez (Legally Blind) teams up for the first time with Tom Rodriguez (Someone To Watch Over Me) in the fantasy drama, Dragon Lady.

Also premiering in 2019 are Love You Twostarring Jennylyn Mercado and Gabby Concepcion, and Hiram na Anak (literally, Borrowed Child) headlined by Yasmien Kurdi.

Two of GMA’s most successful reality competitions, Starstruck and The Clash will both return for another season.

The Network will launch new comedy and musical programs sure to entertain viewers.
